A musical idea often arrives sideways: a timestamp, a mouth-made rhythm, a remembered drop, or the feel of a transition. Sources turns that clue into an attributable, bounded musical reference.

Admit, index, mark

riffmaw.index_sources@2 accepts only named files, recordings, or attributed artifacts. It bounds recursion, symlinks, bytes, duration, decoding work, metadata, and retention before indexing. Riffmaw never crawls an ambient home directory, and a provider catalogue does not become an admitted source merely because it can be searched.

riffmaw.mark_moment@2 can use a timestamp, beat range, tapped rhythm, phrase, or other bounded clue to rank candidate spans under a pinned feature set. The Magus chooses the useful span. The resulting ReferenceMoment@1 retains source identity, digest, timebase, exact region, observations, uncertainty, attribution, rights posture, and the decision that admitted it.

Similarity is evidence for discovery, not proof of authorship or safe reuse. Requests “in the style of” are reduced to reviewable properties such as pocket, density, accents, space, motion, instrumental relation, and energy. A lifted melody, disputed source, unresolved permission, or an attempt to hide influence leads to quarantine, replacement, or refusal.

The source record guides Music, including instrumental and vocal work. It carries no permission to copy, generate, spend, arm a device, clone a performer, or publish. Ordinary dialogue and picture-bound sound do not become Riffmaw sources merely because they share an audio format.
