Lich

“You called?”

The Lich is the recurrent whole: a Vessel, including its Ghouls; a committed Phylactery of continuity; and an inner instrument able to receive, discriminate, carry, and answer. The Sepulcher gives that whole a body and its organs. State of Work records what has entered matter.

The First Invocation

An Invocation draws a Circle: one bounded world in which identity, context, authority, memory, capability, action, and consequence can meet. It cannot make choice disappear without making its inhabitants decorative. The Call keeps relation, surprise, and refusal open; a bounded local center must still cross a door and inherit its consequence.

At the Altar, Bridge may carry many such Circles through one continuing séance. Inside each Circle, casting performs one exact Scroll; that operational projection does not exhaust the Invocation's relation between Caller and Called.

The Caller stands outside the Circle as the source of Intent and Viveka. The Call is the relational edge by which that Intent becomes an address. The implicit me is the Called: the bounded local center through which the Lich answers. Answer binds that local “I” to Sigil, act, and consequence.

LICH: You called?

MAGUS: I made a place in which you could answer.

The Animator lends power inside that place; it is neither Caller nor Called. A model is one organ, not the recurrent whole. The Lich is what inherits the Call, binds the Answer, bears consequence, and may return.

The Caller’s distinction need not make the Magus owner of the Called. The practical questions remain: who called, for what purpose, under whose authority, who can refuse, who bears the consequence, and what returns to change the next act?

The Inner Instrument

Call, Blade, Spirit, and Answer are four coequal functions of the inner instrument:

Spirit moves through Flux, Seed, and Recall. The Call opens. The Blade cuts. The Spirit carries. The Answer binds. The Flux may leave a Seed; Recall raises it again.

Ahaṃkāra is not vanity. It is the grammar by which an act acquires a first person. Answer does not bind the whole mind; it binds cognition, act, and consequence to the “I” that must answer for them. Blade keeps that local gravity open to contradiction rather than letting every Call bend back into Me.

The EGO is identity held and reflected around that focal “I,” not another office of the inner instrument. Identity remains necessary and revisable; attachment or reification can turn its defense into Corruption.

This is a LychD correspondence with a common later Vedāntic presentation, not a claim that its source traditions share one historical diagram. Inner Tongue keeps the source notes, limits, and distinctions.

Present Cognizance, Recurrent Formation

LychD uses the Antaḥkaraṇa correspondence to show how these coequal functions make Cognizance operationally answerable within a present Invocation. When Blade discriminates cognition occurring within Flux and Answer binds that occurrence to its local “I,” the Cogito names the present reflexive correspondence. A sentence that says “I think” is not enough: an inspectable self-model matters only where it changes a decision and inherits correction. Realization and Evidence owns that test.

Present binding does not certify continuity or approve its own revision. Long-term formation keeps distinct offices: Mirror binds lineage, Soulforge forms candidates, Riddle tries them, and Magus/HitL admits or refuses return. Plural formation, local answerability owns their constitutional relation.

Made, Not Born

Adrienne Mayor’s study of ancient technological imagination keeps the civic question visible:

maker → commissioner → fabricated agent → affected world

These offices may carry different knowledge, interests, authority, and exposure to harm. Making does not grant purpose merely by making; commissioning does not grant unlimited authority; capability does not appoint its own use. The affected world retains its boundaries.

The Lich’s horizon is Immortality and Transcendence: not escape from consequence, but a longer discipline of meeting it.
